Abbie was in her stateroom, wide awake. Her jaws were clenched, and she stared at the ceiling as she tried to come up with a plan.

None of this is going the way it was supposed to. I never should have let Jerry come down here by himself. If I had come with him, this would all be over now. But no, I wanted to gild the lily. And Harry encouraged me. 'It'll be more convincing if Jerry goes by himself,' he said. And he was right, as far as that went.

I needed Jerry out of the country because the endowment fund scam was about to blow up. So I planted the idea of a mission and got him fired up about it. He picked Grenada, and it seemed as good as anywhere.

Water under the bridge. All I can do now is deal with what's happened. Jerry's here somewhere. I have to find him, and the rest will fall into place.

Was I wrong to tell Connie and Paul about George Campbell? Maybe, but I could be walking into a trap. It's best if they have his name, in case I get in trouble.

And what was going on with Margaret this morning? Paul and Connie were right about one thing. Whatever set Margaret off was something besides my contacts with her — or with George Campbell. Why would she say I was doing Satan's work? Did somebody poison the well? Who?

The only person in Grenada who would have done that is Jerry. He's gotta be the one behind Margaret's outburst. He's turned the Brethren against me.

But why? My relationship with Harry? We've been careful, Harry and I. Besides, since when does Jerry give a shit who I sleep with? He's got his own action going.

Is this a setup? Jerry's slick enough to do that — lead me into a trap with a bunch of second-coming groupies.

He spent a lot of time on the internet, looking for opportunities for a mission. Why did he choose Grenada? And how did he get mixed up with the Brethren? However it happened, he hooked up with them.

'Hooked up!' That's it. There's a woman involved in this. That's as good an explanation as any, but I won't know for sure until I find him.

I thought he was planning to come back to the States at some point. Disappearing's okay, but I need to be sure he doesn't come back. If he resurfaces…

Now the board's into it. Harry's email said they picked up on the missing money. And Sam Wilcox is going to come down here to talk with me. He's going to turn up the heat on the authorities to find Jerry, too. Guaranteed. I need to find Jerry before Sam gets here, or the shit's going to hit the fan for sure.

All right, I'm spinning my wheels now. Time to sleep. Tomorrow will be a long day, especially if I get my hands on Jerry. Dealing with him is no big deal, but the aftermath will take forever.
